Homegrown is a new writing festival, showcasing local talent by staging an evening of original short plays, featuring local writers, directors, and actors.

CALLING ALL WRITERS!

Aspiring Playwright? Bit of a wordsmith? 

We’re looking for local writers, regardless of age or experience to submit their work.  

If selected, the pieces will be allocated a director, and will be performed by local actors in front of a live audience on Friday 5th July 2024 at Luton Library Theatre.

 

This festival’s theme is PRIDE.

We’re looking for 10-minute plays inspired by this theme. Go wild! Think outside the box.

Scripts will be read by a panel of readers including Adeyinka Akinrinade (Producer & Actor, Riches, Amazon Prime, Champion, Netflix), Teresa Burns (Award-Winning Writer for Stage & Screen), Dana Hudson (Theatre Producer) Lucas Murphy (Actor, Call the Midwife, BBC) and selected scripts will be announced week commencing 10 June 2024.

Homegrown is all about giving local artists, writers, directors, and actors a platform to showcase their talent. If you would like to be involved as an actor or director, email homegrownluton@gmail.com to express your interest. Auditions will be held at Luton Library Theatre in June 2024, with more details to follow.

SCRIPT SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

·       Homegrown is open to all, but we are particularly keen to hear from Luton voices and writers from or based in the Home Counties.

·       Submissions must be received by midnight on Friday 31st May via email and attached as a PDF or Word document.

·       We ask that the Subject Line for email submissions read:  HOMEGROWN – Play Submission – INSERT YOUR NAME

·       In your submission email please include a short paragraph, introducing yourself, and your connection to Luton.

·       Only play scripts will be accepted, intended for live performance. Film, TV and Radio scripts will not be accepted.

·       Your piece must be no longer than 10 mins in duration, therefore we would advise a page count of 10-12 pages maximum.

·       Your piece must work with basic sound/lighting and minimal props.

·       We recommended cast sizes are kept low, ideally a cast of 1-4.

·       Adaptations will not be accepted. We are looking for new plays inspired by this festival’s theme: Pride.
